Today’s Friday Five:
My Five Favourite Websites for Writing Inspiration
Seriously, For Real?
Posts with just about everything: hilarious captions, off-color humour, best “fill-in-the-blank” photos of the year, pics of abandoned locations, and cool places from around the world. For me the best part of it is the mental break and change of pace it provides, but I’ve gotten some new ideas and pics for inspiration boards here.
Natural history, science and design. Animation! Really cool places around the world! Interesting things to trigger a new idea or a take-off on something existing.
Curious HistoryPosts on everything from nature (crazy, dangerous and amazing animals!) to old photos. What I love is that they are interesting but smaller posts, so I feel like I can read them when I have a minute instead of investing a lot of time in each post. Lots of pics to use for inspiration boards, if you do those.
Amazing, creative art and design. Things I wouldn’t have come up with of that spark new avenues of thought.
Yahoo! ShineI jump from site to site (iVillage, MSN Living) for articles on life, home and relationships as one site peters out and the next one starts. Yahoo! Shine is my current favorite. For example, in the last week I’ve gotten a recipe for Perfectly Smooth Hummus (all that it promises, too), ideas for what to do with 18 pounds of Boyfriend Squash, found out that I’ve broken all the rules for not being annoying while in love, pondered the health benefits of going barefoot, and gotten a concise guide to watching the Perseids. Nothing is exhaustive or scientifically technical, so it’s a great place to get a smattering of info to research more in-depth later.
